Tanner McDaniel, Tristan Ray and Craig Whetter make a strike mission to the East Coast of America as Hurricane Humberto delivers some swell. The Sackchat Chronicles boys left the comfort of their Cali homes to cross the country and score from New Jersey to North Carolina.

When people think of surfing in America, their minds automatically jet to the West Coast and the picturesque beaches of California, whether it be the iconic Huntington Pier or Newport’s Wedge (I know mine does). Most of us also associate the nation (wrongly) with shit waves, with the exception of The Wedge on a good day.

Tanner McDaniel, Tristan Ray and myself were super antsy to get waves because it was flat at home, and knowing swell was hitting the East Coast, we couldn’t turn the option down.

Some files landed in our inbox this week that challenged these assumptions. Hurricanes bring destruction and hardship, but sometimes you just have to make the best of a bad thing…

Jenkinsons Beach in New Jersey was pretty packed with surfers & bodyboarders, with some total screamers rolling through nonetheless. It kind of reminded me of Seal Beach here at home with the crowd, wedgey beach break, and the brown water.

Humberto certainly provided the east coast with some of the best waves it’s seen in a while and the west coast natives couldn’t help but make a quick pilgrimage across country.

Luckily for us the strike mission won’t just exist as a story shared between those luckily enough to be present as Cody Hammer was their to capture the boys making the most of the swell.

Being an east coast photographer and bodyboarder it was unreal to see them come out here and tear apart our line ups. The east coast isn’t necessarily the number one place for anyone to take a surf trip to, but for them to trust our knowledge of the swell and pull the trigger was pretty amping.

The trip to the East Coast really opened my eyes to how good it can really get over there, as well as the ample amount of great bodyboarders there are.

So enjoy some imagery of some of our sports most promising young riders enjoying a region not generally exposed in the bodyboarding world.
