Final wrap on the Rebel Sport Pro Tour

Jackson victorious at the last, McLean your new Australian champion.

Winchester made the final of the prone before winning the DK.

Conditions were of the clean two- to three-foot variety, very contestable for the pros, in a final featuring Dave Crowley, Dave Winchester, Chad Jackson and Sean Peterson. They went wave for wave throughout a final that remained tight until the end.

It was Jackson who prevailed with a heat score of 16.60, beating Dave Winchester (13.85), Sean Peterson (12.75) and Dave Crowley (7.65). Commentators congratulated Jackson for gambling on some moves and being rewarded. He waited 15 minutes before catching a wave and then unleashed on the right wedges.

“I am pumped, this is the best feeling ever and it’s the first tour event that I have ever won,” said Jackson. “It was pretty risky waiting 15 minutes before catching a wave, but then I got one really good one and that gave me lots of confidence to go and get another good one.”

The women’s final ended in a tussle between the girls from New South Wales.  Only one point separated the top three finalists, with Lily Pollard beating Emma Cobb, Nicole Fleming (Tas.) and Lauren Knowles.

“I am really stoked to be here and be competing again, I have had little bit of time off competition so it's good to be back,” said Lily. “It is really competitive and all of the girls really fire me up to do my best. I am now super keen on getting back on the world tour next year, but it's just a matter of getting the funding together.”

Winchester bounced back to win the Pro Dropknee beating Dane Pope, Dylan Lee and Jon Capili.

Earlier Corey McLean had been announced the overall 2009 Rebel Sport Pro Tour champion. This is his first year back after a hiatus and he’s been the mark of consistency.

“It has been a long year and I pushed myself very hard to get through all of the events," said Corey. “I am just so stoked and I need to thank all of my family and friends that kept on telling me that I could do it."
