Best and fairestOn
the back of sealing a deal with Morey Nicky G talks professionalism, the
mysteries of star power and his need to flee the GC.

during the Movement board test (or what we refer to as the Single Greatest
Factor In The Making Of Nick Gornall).
Nick
Gornall is considering leaving the Gold Coast. It’s a good thing, too. His
complexion isn’t suited to that region of intense sunshine and reflective
surfaces. It’s called Surfers Paradise, a misnomer for surfers and a truism for bodyboarders. Sydney will suit this man. He’s got an
individual style that will make him the toast of the underground art-fashion
scene for approximately one week early next April. He will probably supplement
his bodyboarding wage by working in a pretentious clothing store selling
Chronicles of Never tees for $250. Or maybe he will find a rich divorcee who he
reminds of her first school boyfriend. Whatever, he will kill it.
Movement: You've
been around the edges of the scene for a while, why has everything happened
this year? Nick Gornall:
That’s a good question, I really don’t know. I’ve still just been doing what I
do: boog around home, have always travelled heaps most of the year with mates,
not so much filming but people have started to hit me up after meeting them
along the way. So yeah, it’s been sick and I hope I can get out there more, try
making some coin, meet people and get a career out of it, BOOM. Movement: How
does this sponsorship change your approach to bodyboarding? Nick Gornall: It
makes me a lot more dedicated to it, that’s for sure. I want to try and get
heaps out of it and prove I can do it, which is a lot easier with money flow,
boards and all. I just want to get more up there so I need more shots, which is
pretty hard being from up Straddie way, ha. Movement: Does
this mean you too, like every other Queenslander with a dream, will move to the south
coast of New South Wales? Nick
Gornall: Haha, I can’t believe you asked that, since my return (he’s been
filming in Chile with Movement TV) and Goldy's poison waves I’ve been thinking
I might move to Sydney next year. Been speaking to Grizz, Wilso and what not
and I’m keen as. I’m over partying here, haven’t missed a weekend on the Gold
Coast since I was 18 I don’t think. Movement:
Finally, what are your plans for the coming months? Anything with the Morey
team? Hawaii? Nick Gornall:
Hmmm, I hope so. I want to do a Morey trip, that’s for sure. Might do Hawaii if
I get some funds to help out.
